Dinner Out In Tasty Taiwan, Ong Kim Wee

After reading up a bit from reviews regarding this place, I decided to give it try. Its just a few doors away from Ban Lee Siang satay celup in Jln Ong Kim Wee.

Ordered 2 value steamboat set priced at RM14.90 each, then top up with this and that, Tried the Salty crispy chicken and also pan fried Gyoza. Had tom yam and ma-la base soup. We were the only customer in from 7-9pm. Service was average. Food was absolutely NO BIG DEAL. Nothing interesting. Poor value meal set- with mini prawns and mini-s scallop, and some assortment of processed food and tonnes of cabbage. The tom yam was just pure chili padi nothing tom-yummish. ma-la is No No as well. Not authentic. The salty crispy chicken was just tit-bits portion. Gyoza was just average as well.

Probably the only thing i was happy about was my Vanilla bubble tea. Which was very YUMMYzzzz...
My verdict- I dont recommend going there, not for their steamboat.
My Rating- 4/10 ( points for ambience-nice oldies was playing in the background and the rest of the points were for the bubble tea)

Till Next...Chompin..

My Birthday outing at Establisment

I was missing those travelling days in Europe and felt like tapas ever since I saw this cafe in Melaka Raya. So I decided to drop by there on my birthday!
Tapas selection was average. Prices ranges from RM15- RM20 plus. So we had grilled garlic prawns and cheese baked scallops. The mains were on 10% offer so we ordered lamb shank and pork tenderloin. Well since the waitress said the cocktails were buy one and the next 1 was at RM1 so what the heck 2 mojitos plz!
My verdict- the garlic prawns were undercook.... ori tapas is not serve on plates!!!! the scallops??? whr? i didnt see any ... the size was pea size! overdone!
On mains- lamb shanks was dissapointing I preferred the one in Wok and Pan at plaza mahkota and the pork tenderloin was all herbs on the outside and dryyyy on the inside....
So in summary, Im just wondering when is this place going to close, there is no customers even during soft opening. Even when on promotion my dinner bill was like RM140++ for 2. Serve was appalling. ( the waitress charged us the mojito full price for both, then we argued that the reason we only ordered it cos you said there were promotion and the menu on the table indicated so! She came back and told us sorry and still say not valid. We just standby what we said and refused to pay the extra... then finally the bill was changed) Fralalala... my verdict plz don't set into this restaurant except for booze maybe if they go on shotters offer!

Christmas Lunch

This update is way pass its time... Anyway happy new year and merry christmas! Just to share some recipes above:

Potato salad (adapted from Jamie Oliver)

New potatoes (10-15),or of any kind suitable to be boiled/mash
few slices of streaky bacon
natural yoghurt
salt and pepper
1 lemon
olive oil
virgin olive oil

1. Peel and wash potatoes. If it is too big cut into smaller size. Put it in a pot of water with salt and bring to boil ( you know when its cook when u can poke a fork through)
2. Drain the potatoes leave it in the pot and fluff it up by shaking it with a lid.
3. While waiting for the potatoes to boil, heat up a pan. Drizzle some olive oil and then slide the bacons in. Let it brown and crisp. Then, cut into small strips.
4. Using the leftover bacon oil, drop in the potatoes let it brown slightly. Then put into a bowl.
5. Drizzle some virgin olive oil, 3 dollops of natural yoghurt. season with salt and pepper. Next get it half a lemon zest and a teaspoon of lemon juice.Blend everything in with a spoon.
6. Start tasting first and adjust accordingly. Has a mild sourish appetizing taste at the end.
7. Add in chopped chives and the bacon. Toss it again!
8. Ready to serve, HOT or COLD.

Next recipe will be in the next update! Hope you like this one an alternative to the creamy ones.
