Isen Japanese Restaurant,Taman Merdeka Permai

Sorry for the lack of updates, firstly my samsung s2 camera has failed me  and im also busy getting ready to be a bride! :D

Recent venture last month was to this Japanese restaurant in Taman Merdeka Permai for lunch. My most recent was was in taman kota laksamana syahbandar (that was awesome jap food,can give wa zen a run for its money)

 Their menu, they are situated same row as wasabi

 Grilled eel with avacado

 Chicken teppanyaki

 Soft shell crab handroll

This was salmon with chili padi

Food and service wise i will give it a 5/10. They have different options and varieties compare to Wasabi. But then again...i'm not likely to return again . But feel free to try out another option away from town. Thier sushis are comparable to wasabi's.

Casa Cucina, Modern Italian Restaurant, Taman Kota Laksamana Melaka

Yesterday night went out with a bunch of colleagues to celebrate my belated birthday! Accidentally bought 2 different cakes from Yeast bakery and 1 more is still sitting inside my fridge!

So there is a new restaurant serving semi fine dining just opened at Kota Laksamana, the new block/row behind Kesington and Kota Laksamana food court. Very new,chick and modern. Menu wise still limited choices I guess they are still improving themselves! Food wise, pasta was yummy just al dente! Roast chicken and roast fish was also good. Food presentation classy! Starters of pumpkin soup and brushetta was also good. If you want to go on a date and need a new dinner place here may be one of your choice. Price wise is affordable comparable to Kesington minus the noise and slow service.

So far they have chicken,pasta and fish for mains. They just added beef and lamb as well (not on the menu yet)

My verdict: 8/10 will definitely go back again (p/s drink can be a bit pricey)

How to get there, from mahkota parade- take the flyover going towards klebang... at the traffic light turn right then turn left again at the shops go to the end and turn right...if you see kesington restaurant and food court you may have just miss the turning in!

Jalan Bunga Raya Melaka Cockles Fare

One of the weekends my fiancee's cousins came over to Melaka for gluttony weekend out. After dinner at Lu Ya Yen we walk to this dodgy alley on Jalan Bunga Raya. If you are coming from town it is located after Madam King before the traffic light on the right side. Park your car along Jalan Bunga Raya or go straight after the traffic light to Jalan Bunga Raya Pantai or you can also find parking if you turn left after the traffic light. All you need its just a short walk.

It is a little smokey and dark . As you walk it you will step on some cockles' shells .Then on you will see small short tables with stools. Bewarned not for the elderly to sit on. Later as you walk deeper in , you will be greeted with the smell of tauhu bakar , then you will see some sotong hanging around. :P

The menu here is quite limited but cheap. You have your range of shelled creatures ranging from kerang to clams to escargots and you could also get some sotong kangkung. Bewarned if you are not a fan of these please do not step in here.

The kerang here are all boiled. A bit too bloody for my liking but the dipping taste quite good. If you are planning to come here to dine please bring some wet tissues with you. It will come in handy.

Verdict : 5/10 ( Acquired preference, if you love Hep A and cockles you are most welcome! :D)

Kow Po Ice Cream , Bentong

 Cendol

Had a long Deepavali and Awal Muharram break... decided to go up hill for a wintery air but before that we made a pit stop at Bentong for lunch. I would post up my lunch place later cause I forgot the name of the place.

 

This was ever famous Kow Po Ice Cream, homemade ice cream it says. First glance from the road side the shop looked empty but when you step in you know its busy! Well my family ordered cendol and ice creams. The pandan ice cream tasted like vanilla and it does have a smooth texture to it. The cendol  was dissapointing without GULA MELAKA. Just to used to having it with gula melaka . This is definetely not my favourite ice cream shop but I guess everyone has their own preferences.

Wasabi Japanese Restaurant, Taman Merdeka Permai

Just uploaded all my phone pics to the computer, hence sudden rush to post up all the FOODPORN.

 

Melaka has a few good japanese restaurant, my favourite is still WA ZEN in melaka raya but you always have to make a reservation and always have to wait and wait... Therefore I opted to go somewhere less busy in Taman Merdeka Permai. This new japanese restaurant has its patrons. I like the sushi rolls here and there are plenty of vegetarian options. The catch here, they charge you up ahead by serving u a bowl of edamame beans first ($$$ RM 3) but doesnt matter to me cause I would order it anyway.

 

Food here is not bad, but not everything is nice. The grill squid was the yuckiest here. Otherwise everything thing else is safe to consume. Price wise slightly cheaper than the hottest in town.

 

 

Verdict : 7/10 . Service good. I have been back a few times...



Tong Sheng for Steamboat and Seafood

Went to this restaurant at Melaka Raya for steamboat initially but as we entered this restaurant we saw tables and tables having crabs! Hence after a glance in the menu we decided to go for Seafood instead!

Their recommended dish was good- Milk Cheese Crab super yummyz.Crab was fresh and fleshy around RM 55 per kg. Then we also had the Horlick prawns mixed with spicy salty prawns was also finger licking... the house special toufu was dissapointing so was the mongolian pork belly. Besides that we had a plate of 'Fried Sang Mee' which was very tasty! The bill came up to about rm26 pp for 6 ppl.

Overall, I would definetely recommend this place and go again to try out... but service is a bit slow so be prepare to wait during peak time!

Comfort food far from home...

I was away for 5 years studying overseas, during all those in between free time and missing malaysian food I started to make some myself to cure my food-sick... :P Well, below is the simplified version of my nasi lemak by scratch.
p/s : if you want even more simple version, buy Tean's gourmet pack of sambal tumis from chinatown or local supermarket. Just fry some dry anchovies (ikan bilis) then add to the sambal bewarned the sambal is damn spicy!

Breakfast in Melaka

Having dim sum for brunch on a Saturday morning at U.E Confectionery at Melaka Raya. Their dim sum selection is quite good in term of value and taste. Their desserts are awesome too! Few of my favourites were the char kuey, har kao, mango prawn, paper prawns and egg tart. They sell all sorts of chinese biscuits too...

This is another favourite by the river, at 59, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Siang Chiang Kopitiam. The old style... Had my favourite kaya butter toast( they use planta) ,nyonya chang, half boiled eggs and a cuppa buttery coffee thick and flavourful! Loads of people go there for nasi lemak as well. There are also other selections of noodles in the kopitiam. It gets very busy and there is limited seats may have to wait for a while. Its cheap and affordable with a twist of old blast from the past feel...

Directions :
From Jalan Bendahara... turn right into jalan munshi abdullah from at the traffic light. Pass another sets of traffic light slow down, the shop is on the right beside a parking lot.

From town through Jalan Bunga Raya, at the end of the road at the traffic light turn left to Jalan Munshi Abdullah, slow down its on your right beside a parking lot.

Tips: there is alot of electronic shops surrounding it and if you cross the bridge you have passed it! take a turn and try again!

Cherating and Chukai Town

The last hols i went was in the East Coast only up to Pahang, at Cherating. Pictures above are from Ruby's Resort area the same turning in ,as Club Med...

We had our dinner at nearby town Chukai about 10km or so drive away from Cherating, there we tried the famous Tong Juan restaurant for their STUFF Crab, the steam fish was also very fresh and yummy. I had garlic prawns too but i goobled it all up before I manage to get a snapshot of it... The town is relatively small... this shop is facing the river near the market!

Below are some of the fast food we grabbed along the way, Yummy Satar-made of fish paste,chili and coconut milk very tangy and smells really good bbqed. Lemangs and serunding on our short turn back adventure passing Chukai towards Kemaman on the old road.
Hai Peng Coffeshop a must stop in Chukai.They serve yummy Roti Bakar and really aromatic coffee. Went there back again 2x to have the same thing.I see alot of people multiracial from far and near enjoying the coffee there or packing it home as gifts. On the very last night after a rained out firefly watching trip , we decided to have ikan bakar to warm up ourselves! This shop is after the Kampung Budaya.Abu Bakar or something like that... its on the left side of the road if your from Kampung Budaya. The amount of food on the table was for 2... It was less than 70 for all that except for the sup ekor was on the steep side.

Do stop by at these food places when your out and about there... :)

Nyonya laksa 286 Baba Low

Had this delectables for brunch last Sunday, cendol, nyonya laksa and pai tee all at 286,Jalan Tengkera....

My verdict- cendol was tad too sweet but still yumz on a cold Sunday morning

- pai tee better than those i had in nyonya restaurant lack of green and red

colours i think

- Laksa - was quite yummyz ,plenty of cockels ( if you like it slightly bloody)

Directions- Go along Jalan Tengkera from the town, quite a distance.. then you see a the Tengkera mosque on your right, take the right turn immediately then, then you will see this shop on your left under big big trees!

Try it... I see loads of people ordered mee siam as well.
